Montclair State University Offers New Online Graduate Degree in Sustainability Science

Professional Science Master’s (PSM) in Sustainability Leadership provides job-focused education

Montclair State University is pleased to announce an exciting new program in sustainability science beginning in fall 2017.  The Master of Science in Sustainability Science with a concentration in Sustainability Leadership will prepare sustainability-minded professionals to be leaders in their industries.

The 32-credit, online graduate program is recognized by the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP), the world's leading professional association of sustainability professionals, and the National Professional Science Master's Association (NPSMA). As a professional science master’s degree, students in the program will pursue advanced training in sustainability science, while simultaneously developing highly valued business skills. Both affiliations demonstrate the programs strong commitment to providing students with employer-desired skills, professional networking opportunities and career development.

Graduates of the program will be prepared to take on leadership roles where they will integrate their business expertise with knowledge of science and technology and a passion for sustainability.

“Sustainability leaders specialize in change management and embed sustainability into the core functions of their organizations,” explains Dr. Robert Taylor, professor in Montclair State’s Department of Earth and Environmental Studies and the program’s coordinator.

Complete in One Year

The accelerated, one-year graduate program is geared toward working professionals who hold bachelor’s degrees and want to gain credentials in sustainability, those seeking additional coursework for professional growth and career advancement and individuals who want to enter the forward-looking world of sustainability science.

Structured as a cohort-based program, students will start and finish with a networked group, develop relationships with other leaders in the field and complete capstone projects guided by mentors in the industry.
