US News Ranks Montclair State University in Top 20 for Education Program

Montclair State University's graduate program in elementary teacher education was ranked 18 in the 2014 US News and World Report rankings of America's Best Graduate Schools. The rankings include 278 doctoral-granting schools of education from throughout the United States, and this College of Education and Human Services program placed ahead of those in renowned institutions such as Harvard, New York University, and the University of California-Berkeley.

"This recognition confirms the assessment of our graduates and their leaders and mentors through New Jersey school districts: The College of Education and Human Services prepares professionals who are among the best in their field--substantively competent in supporting students' learning and contributing to their communities." said Francine Peterman, Dean of the College of Education and Human Services. "We are honored to achieve this national recognition."

This recognition of University-wide accomplishments in teacher education build upon a history of honors, including recent recognition by the Woodrow Wilson Foundation and Education Week.  Montclair State University is one of four New Jersey universities selected to participate in the prestigious Woodrow Wilson Fellowship to design and implement a teacher education program that will prepare up to 80 new math and science teachers for the State and serve as an innovative model for other teacher education programs across the nation. As well, Dr. Katrina E. Bulkley of the department of Counseling and Educational Leadership and Dr. Zoë Burkholder of the department of Educational Foundations were named as outstanding "university-based academics who are contributing most substantially to public debates about K-12 and higher education." The list of academics noted in the 2013 RHSU Edu-Scholar Public Presence rankings was determined by analyzing national scholars' academic work and their contributions to public discourse on education and policy issues.  Bulkley and Burholder are among other prominent educators,  including those from Harvard, Stanford, New York University, University of California-Los Angeles and Columbia's Teachers College.
