Release Date: April 19, 2013
Montclair State University and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA) have announced that the NJSCPA Scholar’s Institute will be held at Montclair State University May 30 and 31, 2013. This invitation-only residency program includes accomplished college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors from all across New Jersey who are pursuing accounting and finance degrees, with the goal of providing them a competitive edge in their career pursuits.
Since its 2002 inception, Scholar’s Institute has helped students identify and accomplish their goals by providing them with essential skills, tools and resources. In addition to supplementing classroom education, Scholar’s Institute offers attendees the opportunity to network with fellow students, CPAs, allied professionals and NJSCPA staff – all of whom represent future professional resources.
“The Montclair State University Department of Accounting, Law and Taxation is honored to be involved with the School of Business in hosting the Scholar’s Institute this year,” said Frank Aquilino, chair of the School of Business Department of Accounting, Law and Taxation. “This event brings together the best and the brightest accounting students in New Jersey under one roof at Montclair State University.”
Montclair State University alumni also praise the innovative program.
"The NJSCPA Scholar’s Institute brings together like-minded students, educators and professionals in a fun and energetic atmosphere that promotes knowledge-sharing and meaningful networking,” said Drew Heimlich, a 2011 Scholar’s Institute and 2012 Montclair State University alumnus. “I walked away with a stronger network of people who I still keep in touch with, —as well as a greater view of the business landscape,” added the Ernst & Young business advisor.
“For students – who are tomorrow’s business leaders – to reach their full potentials, they need to learn in a nurturing environment and experience the actual business world,” said NJSCPA CEO & Executive Director Ralph Albert Thomas. “The NJSCPA Scholar’s Institute is excited to partner with Montclair State University to help provide such an environment.”
“The School of Business is a vital partner of the NJSCPA in the development and training of future accounting professionals. We’re delighted to host the 2013 Scholar’s Institute and recognize and celebrate some of the state's best students,” said Montclair State University School of Business Dean E. LaBrent Chrite.
